On Friday 6th May 2022, the Founder of Medicaid Cancer Foundation Her Excellency Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu met 4 young men from Kebbi who each earned a first-class pharmacy degree from the prestigious Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto during a courtesy call in her office.

They were accompanied by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health Pharm. Hassan Ibrahim Maigandi, Director Pharmaceutical Services MoH Pharm. Musa Kakale, Chairman of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria Kebbi state chapter Pharm. Umar Adamu as well as an excess of the association. Chairman PSN Pharmacist Umar Adamu, presented the four graduates to Her Excellency.

In her remarks, the mother of the state could not hide her utmost and sincere, joy and happiness at seeing such brilliant, focused, and dedicated Kebbi indigenes graduating with First Class degree in the Pharmaceutical profession. The First Lady congratulated them on this great fete they have achieved adding that they have set a high standard for those behind them to emulate. Dr. Bagudu added that the importance of such a solid foundation in education can never be overemphasized. She also commended the achievements of the association enumerated to her under the leadership of Pharm. Umar Adamu.

Pharmacist Umar Adamu informed H.E. the visit is to introduce her children to her as a mother. Pharmacist Umar said this wouldn’t have been possible without the continuous support students receive from His Excellency Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu and Her Excellency Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu. He further said before the coming of the current administration Kebbi has only 3 Pharmacists but as of today, they are 55 in number due to automatic employment started by this government. Similarly, he noted that during this administration, a Pharmacist attained the position of Permanent Secretary.

Pharmacist Umar summarized the achievements under his leadership as including:

Purchase of land located along Birnin Kebbi – Kalgo road to establishing a secretariat, scientific Conference hall, and Drug manufacturing plant to create jobs and boost the economy of the state, sponsoring of quiz competition organized by NYSC CDS, Supporting NYSC camp activities and outreach visits to Nigerian Correctional Services. The association has also produced and donated sanitizers during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. He reminded the audience of the collaboration between them and the Kebbi state multipurpose cooperative where women and youth were trained to produce the same sanitizers.

Pharmacist Musa Kakale commended the First Lady’s Contribution to the Pharmaceutical Sector in the State such as the Establishment of the Drug and Consumable Management Agency backed by a law promulgated by the Kebbi State House of Assembly.

Permanent Secretary, MoH Pharmacist Hassan on behalf of all the pharmacists in the state thanked and appreciated the Governor of Kebbi state His Excellency Sen. Abubakar Bagudu while praying for Almighty Allah to continue to guide and protect him.

Dr. Zainab promised to continue her advocacy for professional services excellence and also celebrate the graduates shortly.

The four first-class graduates are;

  1. Falalu Ibrahim Fakkai (Argungu LG)
  2. Abdullahi Balarabe (Gwandu LG)
  3. Abdulrahman Lawal (Argungu LG)
  4. Muhammad Ahmad Rufai (Bunza LG).

All 4 have been employed by the Kebbi state government.
