Eslf Holds 7th Annual Literacy Project As Dr. Mrs. Ortom Tasks Children To Imbibe Reading Culture

Wife of the Executive Governor of Benue State and Founder, Eunice Spring of Life Foundation Dr. Eunice Ortom has tasked young school children to imbibe the culture of reading, stating that it was salient for their intellectual growth and general development.

She stated this today, Tuesday 31st May 2022 at the 7th edition of the Eunice Spring of Life Foundation Literacy Project held at the IDP Learning Centre Camp 3, Mbawa, Daudu in the Guma Local Government Area.

The Benue state First Lady stressed that it was important to focus on elementary education to train the younger generation to adopt reading and other learning processes. She asserted that once people are groomed at a tender age, it was difficult for them to deviate.

Highlights of the event included a read-aloud session where the Governor’s wife read a play titled “Alom, Mfa Iyongo -ga & a Special Grain” by Benue born author, S. Su’eddie Vershima Agema where a question and answer ensured between the students and the ESLF Founder as well as a spelling bill which had participants from four schools namely IDP Learning Centre 1, 2, 3 & IDP Learning Centre Uikpam where Terna Nyiesue of the Camp 3 Learning Centre emerged as the winner.

The Foundation also presented learning materials comprising notebooks, textbooks, workbooks, whiteboards and markers, writing materials, tables, and chairs as well as Bicycles to ease the movement of students from neighboring communities.

Others who attended the event are the Honorable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Special Duties, Mrs. Tabitha Igirgi, the chairman of SUBEB Mr. Joseph Utse, and Director General of Radio Benue Dr. Charles Iornumbe, Representative of UNHCR Mrs. Beatrice Shomikyegh and other development partners of the foundation and the state.
