Political analysts have stated that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Benue State has remained stronger and united after the party’s primaries which produced candidates for the various elective positions ahead of next year’s polls.
The analysts, Special Adviser to the Benue State Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Terver Akase, and PDP State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Bemgba Iortyom spoke when they featured on Brothers 90.5 FM, Makurdi audience participatory program, “Burning Issues” which aired Tuesday, May 30, 2022.
Assessing the conduct of the just concluded PDP primary elections, the Special Adviser, Mr. Akase acknowledged that the party held a transparent, free and fair exercise that reflected the collective participation of party members and stakeholders across the 276 Council Wards of the State.
He maintained that the PDP in Benue and at the national levels has set the pace for other political parties given the organized and credible approach with which the party handled its internal democratic exercise to nominate candidates for the 2023 elections.
According to him, “PDP in the State under the leadership of Governor Samuel Ortom is known for setting the pace, the party has concluded elections in all positions while other political parties are yet to decide on the mode of primaries.”
The Special Adviser acknowledged that the Benue State PDP Governorship flag-bearer, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Titus Uba possesses the attributes of a leader who will govern the State effectively, noting that the State Assembly under his leadership has been stable.
He expressed confidence that the people of the State will not regret voting Uba as Governor in 2023.
Commenting on the INEC’s early timetable for electoral activities, the Special Adviser said it was a welcome development as it will avail the political parties and aspirants sufficient time to strategize, plan and engage party stakeholders and the electorate on issue-based campaigns to clinch victory at the general polls.
Also speaking, Mr. Iortyom lauded the PDP leadership for conducting a credible, transparent, and peaceful primary election from the wards and state congresses leading to the national convention in Abuja where a presidential candidate emerged.
The PDP State Publicity Secretary attributed the success recorded to the series of meetings and consultations that were held to make the process inclusive at the state and the national level.
According to him, the party has not recorded any litigation from the conduct of the primaries, emphasizing that it was evidence of the fact that the exercise was credible and transparent.
He noted that the outcome of primaries has set the stage for a rancor-free campaign ahead of the general elections as the party was upbeat about clinching victory.
“The just-concluded primary elections were fair and transparent, the manifestation of this is that the party has grown from strength to strength and is marching to victory ahead of the general elections,” he said.
Mr. Iortyom challenged the opposition party in the state to live up to its responsibilities by giving credible opposition to the PDP for a virile democracy to thrive.
Callers on the program including Emmanuel Asongu, and Tivta Samuel Ras-Sattuga amongst others commended the PDP for organizing transparent primary elections and tasked other parties to also emulate the PDP.
