The President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan on Thursday lauded the remarkable achievements of Kebbi State Governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.
The Senate President also said that Kebbi State was the strongest state in Nigeria which was inevitable.
Lawan, who spoke at the inaugural ceremony of Governor Bagudu at Government House, Birnin Kebbi, said, “Kebbi State is proud of the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governor’s forum and the President of the Senate.
“With these strong elements and other outstanding men and women of the state, what else can be assessed about the APC issue?
“This is the foundation of the APC and we will continue to work together, with a delegation of senators from the state.
“With this, we will continue to serve the people of the state and the country as a whole.”
Lawan added that every Nigerian was now looking to Kebbi State for guidance and direction, as it was about political equality and democracy.
Hailing Governor Bagudu’s tremendous progress, Lawan described Kebbi as “the heart of the APC.”
“You are certainly an expert in the field of governors and you have made progress in your leadership.
He pledged that the unity of the Ninth Senate and the National Assembly as a whole, together with the leaders and the armed forces of the presidency, was a true symbol of the nation.
According to him, this may be the reason why so many development projects are taking place across the country.
The Senate President emphasized the need for leaders to think in terms of national unity and to be representatives of unity.
He said his visit to the state was a return home, while he praised Bagudu and that was why the Emir of Argungu gave him the traditional title of Ganuwan Kabi.
“We have come with a big event. The King of Argungu will celebrate his 25th birthday on Friday and we have come to attend the ceremony,” he said.
Lawan also expressed condolences to the government and the people of the state over the death of Alhaji Garba Dandiga, a state elder, and former commissioner of agriculture.
The Senate President prayed to God Almighty to grant him Paradise, and to provide for his family and government so that the people of the State suffered a great loss that could not be replaced.
Earlier, Governor Bagudu while welcoming Lawan said the people of the state were happy to meet other members of the state NASS.
Bagudu also lauded the achievements of the Senate President, as well as the various laws that have led to the development of Kebbi and Nigeria.
He cited the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture in Zuru and the Federal College of Agriculture in Illo.
The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) added that the people of the state have benefited from various legislatures.
Bagudu added that Kebbi State remained a member of the All Progressive Congress(APC) as a whole, despite occasional setbacks in the democratic process, and defeats were always won.
Bagudu congratulated the Senate President on the ‘Ganuwan Kabi’ award presented by the King of Argungu.
